Our Friend who is closer than a brother | Anchored in Hope Devotions

We all want to be understood! To have a friend who gets us and is there for us no matter what is a priceless gift, but even the best of friends will sometimes let us down. As human beings, we can have the best of intentions, but we can and will disappoint each other at times.

However, there is a Friend who will never disappoint! His love for us is never-ending!

"...but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24b

He loves us unconditionally! It is not based on our ability to earn His love. Sometimes, we wonder if people knew the "real" us, they would not like us anymore or want anything to do with us, but God knows everything about us and will never be surprised by anything we say or do or think.

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Roman's 8:38-39

His love is based on His character not on our performance! He is the best of friends, and He wants a personal relationship with each of us, so much so, He willingly paid the price for all our sin on the cross and defeated death by His resurrection three days later. We simply must place our faith in His finished work on the cross turning from our sin to Him.

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

What amazing, all-powerful, all-knowing, unchangeable love! Who wouldn't want a Friend like Jesus!
