Jesus is Our Anchor | Anchored in Hope Devotions

Jesus is our anchor.

An anchor is a large metal device, usually in the form of a hook, that sailors throw into the sea attached to their ship in order to hold themselves in place amidst the raging ocean.

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” - Isaiah 41:13

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” - Colossians 1:17

Jesus holds us in place.

The anchor is often seen as an immovable piece of equipment that always holds its ship in place, but this isn’t always true; anchors break, chains snap, and ships lose control. Jesus will never let us go and will never fail us.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” - Hebrews 13:5

“For no word from God will ever fail.”” - Luke 1:37

Jesus puts us at peace.

When sailors drop their anchor, they usually don’t have to worry about their ship floating astray, but they always have to make sure that the anchor stays safe. We do not have to worry about Jesus being safe or providing for us; he is more powerful than any human anchor.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” - John 14:27

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

Jesus is trustworthy.
