Glorification of Death | Anchored in Hope Devotions

I believe that when a society begins to worship death, it becomes miles closer to its own death than it ever was before. When a culture begins to praise murder, it is when it truly begins to murder itself.
It’s a self-inflicting belief. If you believe that death is a good thing and that murdering innocent lives is actually justifiable, when will you yourself be next? As soon as you start down this path, you are doomed.
The Bible teaches us a few truths about how we are to view death in murder.
“You shall not murder.” – Exodus 20:13
“Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” -- 1 John 3:15
“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.” – Genesis 9:6
“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.” – James 4:2
Desiring to murder comes from hate. Hate comes from a sinful and rebellious heart. And a rebellious heart comes from greed.
Committing murder is one of the farthest checkpoints from a relationship with God. At that point, you become one of the people who God is talking about in Romans 1:18-32.
When we as a society stop punishing murder, we are encouraging a culture of hate, greed, and defiance of our Creator. We see this pattern throughout our sinful History. Justice is a very good thing, and when done, it can shape the entire trajectory of a nation.
Satan wants this. He wants us to cheer on murder and death because he hates God’s creation, he hates us, and he especially hates God. If you stand against murder, I would encourage you to stand up against hate and greed too. They come from the same heart.
God bless.
