In His Image | Anchored in Hope Devotions

Genesis 1:25-26

“And God made the beasts of the earth according to their

kinds, and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything

that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw

that it was good. Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image,

after our likeness. And let them have dominion…So God created

man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male

and female He created them.”

We can see the different breeds and colors that are

evident in horses around the world. While these differences

are more noticeable in some breeds more than others, they

are there nonetheless. For instance; an Arabian looks tall,

until compared with a Friesian. Both quarter horses and

thoroughbreds are fast, but after a quarter mile you can tell

which one is built for long-distance endurance. But why?

Why are they different? What would happen if the only

horses in the world were Icelandics? As wonderful as they

are, they cannot be used for everything. That is why God

created horses, and everything else, to be ‘after their kind’,

but still be unique for the job they are used for. They are all

different, but they all still look alike.

Similarly, God created man and woman after His

likeness. All men and women are different. They’re all

different heights, and have different talents, abilities, and

jobs. But despite all the differences, humans were created

in the image of their Creator. This is what makes us

different from animals. The animals were made after their

kinds, but we were made in the likeness and image of God.
