Persecuted for Christ | Anchored in Hope Devotions

As Christians, it is Biblical to expect persecution for our belief in Jesus Christ. In Matthew, our Savior gives us a clear picture of this ideology, and in the letter to Timothy, Paul reaffirms it.

Matthew 24:9:

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death,

and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.”

2 Timothy 3:12:

“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in

Christ Jesus will be persecuted,”

The price for salvation has been paid, but that doesn’t mean it’s a smooth ride to the gates of heaven. As long as the Lord has us on this earth, we will be attacked, hated, blamed, mistreated, and killed for the Son of God.

As Christ gave Himself up for us, we also are to give ourselves up for Him. Does this mean we live in fear of death and hate from the world? By no means! The death of Christ gives us hope in eternal life with God and riches beyond our imagination!

2 Corinthians 4:17:

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for

us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,”

When we are persecuted by people, we are commanded to respond in love and compassion. This will definitely be difficult at times, but, compassion without actions is the world’s fashion. As Christians, turning the other cheek or giving your enemy something to eat and drink is what Christ has called us to.

Romans 12:14:

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.”

So as you go out this week, don’t be surprised when you’re mistreated for the name of our King. Bless those who attack you and give God glory! Have a blessed week and keep your soul anchored in the hope of Christ!
