Imagine you have an appointment with your doctor, and you are told to be there 15 minutes early. So to make sure you are on time, you arrive 20 minutes early.
You get checked in and you go sit down in the “waiting room.” Time goes by and you check your watch and finally 1 hour later your name is called. You then follow the nurse to a very small “waiting room.”
She checks your blood pressure etc. and then says “the doctor will be with you shortly.”
You smile and think to yourself "uh huh." After a while in the small “waiting room” you begin to wonder if they have forgotten you.
Finally your doctor arrives and you have your appointment.
God has a “waiting room” for His children.
Many times in the Bible we see the phrase “wait on the Lord or wait for the Lord.” In the original language it means waiting, looking for with expectation.
This is how we should live our lives everyday.
Sometimes the trials are big, like the loss of a loved one, serious illness or loss of a job. But often it is just day to day living. For example when your income is only so much, you need to use what God has given you wisely.
In Psalm 27 David is being chased by his enemies. This trial lasted many years, but David says “the Lord is my light and salvation” and because of that truth, he did not fear.
David also said he wanted to be in God’s presence all of his life. As believers we are assured of God’s presence in our lives continually.
He also said that he wanted to gaze upon God’s beauty and meditate on God. We need to daily remind ourselves who our Heavenly Father is and all His attributes.
David also says that God told him to seek His face, and David responds with your face I seek. This is a reminder that our Lord wants us to know that His desire is to have a very close relationship with us. David also wants the Lord to teach and guide him as well.
The Psalm ends with “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
When as believers we recognize who our Heavenly Father is, and we constantly are seeking Him, we can be assured that He is aware of everything in our lives. With that knowledge we trust Him with patient confidence knowing that He has everything in His control.
Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
