Psalm 23:4 - “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Are you in a season of loneliness that feels like a lifetime?
King David of Israel was faced with many trials and tests. From the killing of Goliath, to being sought after by Saul, to then becoming king of Israel, he was known as a man after God’s own heart. However, David still had his own struggles.
We find over and over again the emotional rollercoaster of David’s life in the Psalms. Sometimes he questioned God, other times he petitioned God for help, and finally he would praise God for His greatness. Notice that in all three examples, David looked to God. David knew that his own strength was not enough.
From his time hiding in a cave away from Saul to his sin with Bathsheba, David faced the realities of his strength, abilities, and circumstances. However, in Psalm 23 he writes about how “The Lord is our shepherd”, “He leads me beside still waters”, and “God is always with us”.
David shows us that to persevere through trials, we must not look to ourselves for strength, but instead to the God who loved us so much He sent His Son to die for our sins. That is the all-knowing, everywhere present, loving God that we serve. Let’s rest in this truth today!
