Productivity is essential for the christian life.

We aren’t made to sit around all day spending our time on nothing of value. God wants us to be working, building, creating, and ultimately imitating His character.

God gave us values of creativity, artistic abilities, physical strength, mental strength, and all these things are meant to be used. Whether that’s at a 9-5 job, DIY projects, building a ministry, investing in your church, or anything else, God wants us to work like and for Him.

Colossians 3:23-24:

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

1 Corinthians 10:31:

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

This is also demonstrated in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30).

Before the master left, he distributed different talents to each servant. When he came back, he looked to see how each invested their talents.

Likewise, God has allotted us a certain amount of time on this earth, and it’s up to us to determine how we invest it. God will judge what we choose to do on this earth and what we put our time into.

Would you want God to see your time invested in sinful and disgusting things or righteous and holy things? Would you want God to see your time invested in yourself indulgence and interest, or in the interests and needs of others?

We are responsible for how we spend our time while on earth, and sometimes it’s easy to just bury those responsibilities and forget about them, just like the one servant did (Matthew 25:18). But that’s not what God has asked us to do. He wants us to work as He works and to be wise like He is wise.

So, looking ahead to this week, how can you use the time God has given you to be productive and get work done? We shouldn’t be lazy or waste the time God gave us.

Proverbs 19:15:

"Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger."

We should be encouraged that God has given us work to put our hands and minds to. He’s given us abilities and wants us to use them to their fullest. Have a wonderful week working for the Lord!
