A Peaceful Wife | Anchored in Hope Devotions

I know I had said that I was done talking about peace, but I'm not done talking about peace! There is at least one more lesson that I think we can draw on peace, so here it is.
The lesson about peace today is that as Godly men, it is important for us to try and find a wife that brings us peace or is a peaceful person. Being peaceful is something specific and special to wives that I think is overlooked a lot of times in the Bible.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” – 1 Peter 3:3-4
These verses are explicitly for wives, but obviously the same lesson can be taken for men. In this devotional I’m not focusing on the lesson of not adorning yourself, but I’m looking at the last line where Peter is explaining the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. A peaceful heart some could say.
“Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.” – Proverbs 21:19
This verse really just explains the gravity and horribleness of having an unpeaceful wife. It is giving the contrast so that we can realize that having a peaceful wife is such an amazing thing.
I just want to recognize that as Christian men, we are looking for a partner that emulates all the qualities of Jesus, but peace is especially important I think. Because like Solomon makes clear, if you don't have a peaceful wife, it would be better for you to live in a wasteland of misery.
On the flip side, women, take this as your call to bring peace to those around you, and to remember to bring peace to your husband when married. You both should be bringing peace to each other, but it is seen in different ways for each. The man provides and the woman supports. Be a great wife for your husband and be peaceful!
