Is God enough? When your world falls apart and your heart shatters into a million pieces, do you believe God is enough? Instinctively, you may want to withdraw and hide from people because the trial feels too personal and painful, or the opposite, maybe your first desire is to run to a friend and pour your heart out. Job in the Bible experienced first-hand what it was like to receive bad news after bad news, the loss of all his children, his wealth, and then painful boils from head to toe. For a while, he sat by himself in all his misery until his friends showed up. They wisely sat quietly with him for a time, and then they unwisely opened their mouths and presumed to have the answers to Job's suffering. Job cried out to God and God answered! He never gave Job a reason for his trials but instead reminded Job of His great power and sovereignty over all His creation. Job responded with humility and recognition of God's sovereign control. He understood that God knows what is best and makes no mistakes. He also knew that God was orchestrating the trials to grow Job so that he would "come forth as gold" (Job 23:10b). Ultimately, he knew that God is enough. His true satisfaction did not come through his friends or by having his trials removed but by recognizing who God is and that He is all-sufficient to meet our deepest heart needs.
